4 Important Things To Consider Before Getting A Tummy Tuck

You have a flab of skin around your midsection that just won't budge, and a tummy tuck is looking like a really viable option. Here are a few things you should consider before deciding to have the surgery.

Are you comfortable with a bit of downtime?

Tummy tuck surgery is a rather extensive procedure, and it does require a substantial amount of downtime for recovery. If you can't get off work for very long or set aside ample time to get fully well, tummy tuck surgery may not be the best option.

Do you have someone at home who can help you while you recover?

You will definitely need someone to help you recover after you have had a tummy tuck. In the first few days, you will be considerably sore as your body starts the healing process. You may not be able to get up and down out of bed easily to get around, and you may have to walk in a bent-over fashion to keep pressure off of the surgical site that stretches when you stand fully erect. If you don't have or can't arrange to have someone around to help you, it is best to wait on getting your tummy tuck.

Are you fine with having a scar on your midsection?

Any type of plastic surgery tends to come along with scars, and a tummy tuck is no different. You will have scars at some point along your midsection when you do have your tummy tuck. You will likely have a scar at the top of your bikini line, which is the same place that a lot of females have a scar after a cesarean. If there is a lot of extra skin along the sides of your midsection, there may be small scars here as well.

Do you plan on having children in the future?

If you have already had all the children you intend to have, then a tummy tuck is probably going to work out for you. However, if there is even a slight chance that you may choose to have another child in a few years or later on, it can be best to wait to have the tummy tuck done later. The same issues that mothers seek to correct with a tummy tuck after having a baby can and usually will return again after another pregnancy. Repeat tummy tucks are not just harder to achieve, some doctors will not perform them.

Tummy tucks are nice options for a lot of people. Contact local tummy tuck professionals if you have any more questions about if this procedure would be right for you.
